Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids, Michigan has a population of almost 200,000. It is the second-largest city in the state, second only to Detroit in both population and square mileage. The city, though large, has a decidedly small-town vibe, with the residents personable and friendly. The city is named for its proximity to the Grand River, affording the city with a wealth of outdoor opportunities along its wide banks and giving it its nickname, “River City.”
Grand Rapids has another nickname: “Furniture City.” This is due to the large amount of office furniture manufacturers that call Grand Rapids home base. The city's economy is diverse, with leaders in the healthcare, automotive, and information technology fields.
