Prospect
Prospect is a town located in the eastern part of the state of Maine. It is situated inside of Waldo County. This town has a population of 709 residents spanning a total land area of 18 square miles. This gives it a population density of 39 inhabitants per square mile. There are 291 households in the town and 197 families. The town population consists of fifty percent married couples and thirty percent of the residents have children under the age of 18 living in the home. The town is located on the west bank of the marshy Penobscot River. The town was originally settled in 1759 as part of Frankfort. It was incorporated in 1794 after being separated from Fort Pownall. By 1859 the town had one shingle mill, one gristmill, and three sawmills. Fort Knox is one popular attraction in the town, which was actually included in an episode of the show Ghost Hunters, wherein signs of paranormal activity were investigated in the fort.
