Stamford
Stamford, Connecticut is located in the southwestern region of the state and is in Fairfield County. Stamford is considered to be the third largest city in the entire state of Connecticut. It is located about 30 miles from Manhattan, New York. There are many companies located inside this metro area, which gives Stamford the largest financial district outside of New York City. Before the colony was formed in this area, Stamford was inhabited by Native Americans, there was a deed signed in 1640. In 1692, Stamford was home to a witch trial that did not get as famously known as The Salem Witch Trials, because there were less people accused and there was less fanatical punishment. In the late 19th century, prominent New York residents started building summer homes on the shoreline and some even moved here permanently and were commuting into the city. In the 1960s and 1970s, Stamford, Connecticut grew when commercial real estate sales took off from businesses relocating from New York City due to crime. The city started renewing itself, and redevelopment continued. There are 45 neighborhood areas that make up the diversity in this area. With each neighborhood having a somewhat different culture than the next, this is a wonderful area to visit. There are also four islands in the Long Island Sound that call Stamford home; they are Grass Island, Greenway Island, Jack Island, and Vincent Island. The locals refer to this area as Little Manhattan, because of the location, the diversity, as well as the business aspect.
