Farmington
Almost 46,000 residents live in Farmington, New Mexico, near Arizona, Colorado, Utah, in what is named the Four Corners region. The city is home to San Juan Community College. This exciting campus was the first in the nation to earn the prestigious top education award from the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. Students here can train in a wide variety of careers or prepare to continue their education at universities throughout the region.
Mining of petroleum, natural gas, and oil is big business, particularly on the Navaho grounds about 10 miles south of the city. While there are many small companies involved, much of the work is done by BHP Billiton, a multinational mining and petroleum company whose headquarters are in Melbourne, Australia. The largest employer in town is the San Juan Regional Medical Center, who operates a 250-bed community hospital. The second-largest employer is Farmington Municipal Schools, while the third-largest is the City of Farmington.
