Kipton
Kipton is a village of approximately 250 located in north-central Ohio. Its claim to fame is not very illustrious: In 1891, it was the site of a major train wreck, which was reportedly caused by the watches of the railroad engineers not being synchronized. The good news is that this catastrophe eventually led to some significant changes in quality control standards related to the chronometers used by the railroads. The region is known for its sandstone quarries, its scenic back roads, its state and local parks, and the well-respected Oberlin College. It is wonderfully situated on the southern shores of Lake Erie, between the cities of Cleveland and Sandusky.
