Positioned at the convergence of the Willamette River and Clackamas River, Oregon City is just 13 miles south of Portland, Oregon. The city is divided up into three major zones that are delineated by bluffs and steep hills. The Hudson’s Bay Company established the city in 1829 and in 1845 Oregon City was the first American city that was west of the Rocky Mountains to be incorporated. The city is also home to the Willamette Falls, a natural waterfall on the Willamette River. Based on the volume of the water in this horseshoe shaped waterfall, it is believed that Willamette Falls is the largest waterfall in the American Pacific Northwest, and the seventeenth widest in the whole world. Oregon City has a thriving cultural and historical area, as well as many shopping and recreational opportunities.
