Columbus
Columbus, Texas, is a charming, leafy town in the warm, southerly U.S. state that’s famous for its cattle ranches and black gold. Its pleasant streets are architecturally rich, with plenty of historic colonial houses and picturesque museums to draw in regular visitors. With a population of less than 5,000 people, the town has a laid-back and wonderfully rural feel to it, and there’s a tangible sense of community spirit in everyone you meet. Steeped in history that dates as far back as 1837, this ancient township sits along the gently winding banks of the Colorado River, its earliest trade route. While there’s little commerce on the river these days, the fast-flowing waters are still an attraction to visitors.
