Laurel

In 1685, Lord Baltimore granted a large tract of land to Richard Snowden, who arrived in Maryland as an indentured servant. This tract of land, known as Montpelier, is located just a few minutes south of Laurel, Maryland. Richard Snowden eventually became prosperous and built the Montpelier Mansion, which stands today as an icon of history and strength. As generations have passed, the area around Montpelier Mansion has grown with development of residential and commercial areas.Today, the community of Montpelier is what is known as a Planned Urban Development, or PUD, which is a thriving residential area maintained by the Montpelier Community Association, covenants and regulations. With just under 5,400 residents, Montpelier continues to be an icon for safe, family-friendly neighborhoods rich with amenities, but outside the bustle of nearby Laurel, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
