Bangor
Fans of Stephen King novels will like exploring Bangor, Maine, as it has been the inspiration for his fictional town of Derry, ME. Spooky reputation aside, this is a genuine New England town. It is located in Penobscot County and is the third largest city in Maine. The region has witnessed all the major eras of American history, with some of the earliest European explorers arriving as early as 1524.
It is a small city with great cultural institutions, such as the University of Maine Museum of Art and the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. Academically, it is a significant city for the northern and eastern Maine area. It is the home to the University of Maine, University College of Bangor, Husson University, Beal College, and the Bangor Theological Seminary.
Both Penobscot River and Kenduskeag Stream flow southeast and run through the more populated areas of Bangor.
