Lansing

Situated in the heart of Michigan between Detroit and Grand Rapids is the city of Lansing. Lansing is the state capital of Michigan, and is a large metropolitan area consisting of several smaller neighborhoods and districts. With a city population of more than 114,000 residents, Lansing is a prime location for enjoying all the beauty and commerce of the area. The metropolitan area of Lansing is even greater, topping more than 460,000 residents, and is home to a wide array of culture, education, history, arts, and entertainment. Lansing dates back to the late 18th Century, when explorers navigated the Grand River. By the mid 18th Century, development had begun, and Lansing was made the capital of the state in 1848. Since that time, Lansing has become a hub of innovation and industry, marked by the founding of Olds Motor Vehicle Company in Lansing in 1897. Even today, the area around Lansing, all the way east to Detroit is rich with automotive history and industry. Today, industry is more diversified, with the largest employers in Lansing being divided between the State of Michigan employers, Michigan State University, Sparrow Health System, and General Motors.
