Sacramento

Sacramento is a major city on the west coast of the United States. It is the capital city of the state of California and the government seat of Sacramento County. The city is located in the northern portion of California’s Central Valley at the confluence of the American River and the Sacramento River. Sacramento is the cultural and economic hub of the Sacramento Metropolitan area, which includes seven counties with an estimated population of 2.7 million people. Native American Indians originally settled and inhabited Sacramento. Irish settlers migrated to the area and built a fort in the center of the city and a close-knit community was born. Sacramento is home to numerous attractions including the California State Park Museum and the historic grounds of Fairland. The city of Sacramento is also a travel and shopping destination. The city is has a very rich history including being the western point of the first railroad in the United States. The Transcontinental Railroad began its construction in 1863 in Sacramento. The city has had her fair share of historic endemics, which completely flooded the town and brought flu and cholera epidemics in 1850, which crippled the town for several years. All hope was not lost as the town rose to her feet and the very rivers that brought a threat to growth and development turned into a blessing by becoming modes of transport and thus fueling economic growth to the region that is now the larger Sacramento valley.
