Hollister
A small agricultural town of about 35,000 residents, Hollister is the county seat of San Benito County, California. Once inhabited by the Mutsun Ohlone Indians, today it is comprised mainly of family homes and farmers. Though it was founded in 1868, they decided against the traditional Spanish and Saint names of the surrounding cities, and decided to name the city after William Welles Hollister, who the property where the town is located was bought from. Today, the city is one of the best examples of aseismic creep to be found in the world. In fact, the Calaveras Fault bisects the city and has caused visibly damaged homes in the area. Due to that, they claim to be the "Earthquake Capital of the World.”
