Steinauer
Steinauer (which is pronounced by locals as “Steener”) is a village of approximately 75 residents in Pawnee County, in the southeastern corner of Nebraska. It was named after 3 brothers from Switzerland who settled in the region in 1856 (although the town was not officially named until 1874). At its peak (1910), the town had a population of 248 and featured a bank, a post office, a saloon, and several businesses. Today visitors to Steinauer can enjoy strolling through the historic streets, enjoying the local flora and fauna, and just soaking up the charming atmosphere of a classic small Midwestern town.
