Grass Valley
Grass Valley, California is a city in the northwest corner of California. It is home to almost 13,000 satisfied northern Californians. This city lies in the heart of the California Gold Country and was a pivotal player during the Gold Rush of 1848-1855 as it was an already established community that boomed during those years. Originally named Centerville, the town name was inexplicably changed to Grass Valley in 1851.
With the historical legacy left by the Gold Rush, the economy in Grass Valley is driven mainly by tourism. However, the local agricultural industry continues to thrive, and with growing conditions perfect for grapes, the wine industry has begun to move into the area. In fact, there are several renowned wineries in the Grass Valley area today.
