Indio

Indio is a city in Riverside County, California. It's east of Los Angeles and east of Palm Springs, which places it right in the middle of the dusty Colorado desert. That's not a deterrent to people who want to visit, however. The city motto is “The place to be” and Indio has been nicknamed the “City of Festivals” because of all the special events that take place there.The action in Indio is as hot as the weather in this Coachella Valley hub. There's the Riverside County Fair, the National Date Festival (date as in fruit, not ask someone out), the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and the Southwest Arts Festival. There's a casino, a preserve, and a lot of western history to be found. The word “Indio” is Spanish for “Indian.”
