Utica
Located on the banks of the Ohio River, near the Indiana-Kentucky state line is the small town of Utica, IN. Originally settled in 1795, Utica was once comprised of a development of cabins just large enough to meet the basic needs of settlers in the area. Soon thereafter, several businesses sprang up in the town including a blacksmith, butcher, general store, and tavern. Utica is also situated near the site of the of a ferry crossing, which made settling the area even more appealing. In recent years, Utica has grown to more than 700 residents, though the area has not been without devastation. In 1997, a flood caused considerable damage and placed the zoning and planning laws into question. Even so, the convenient proximity to nearby larger city Jeffersonville puts Utica in easy access to many amenities and conveniences including shopping, dining, and entertainment. Additionally, Utica is only a short drive from populous Louisville, which offers a plethora of things to see and do.
