Laredo
Fort McIntosh is located to the southwest of Laredo, Texas, in the crook of the Rio Grande River. Home to the Laredo Community College and Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center, Fort McIntosh is more than just a historical landmark, it is a community focused on innovation and education. The neighborhood of Fort McIntosh is largely undeveloped in the northern and mid-southern portions, with only a hand full of regular residential areas. In total, there are less than 1,500 residents in the area.
Today, the 200-acres and buildings that once comprised Fort McIntosh during times of war and conflict, now serve as useable space for the Laredo Community College. Not many colleges offer such a unique, personal glimpse into the history of the area in which it stands. Many areas of the campus and surrounding area are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and some are considered a State Archeological Landmark.
