Las Cruces
Las Cruces, New Mexico is known as “The City of the Crosses”, though historical accounts do not indicate the exact reason for the nickname. With a history dating back to the 16th Century, Las Cruces has retained much of its beauty and iconic landscape and architecture over the years, and is a perfect place to step back in time to visit the New Mexico landscape of yesteryear. In 1849, the United States Army plotted out the town plans for the area, and thus Las Cruces was founded. With the addition of the railroad in the late 19th Century, Las Cruces quickly developed and saw an influx in residents. In 1888, New Mexico State University was founded in Las Cruces, further innovating and developing the area.
Today, Las Cruces is a wonderful place to visit or call home, and boasts a wide array of culture, arts, entertainment, and history. All together, these features continue to develop the area and the population, which in 2010, reached just over 104,000 residents.
