Round Rock
Round Rock, Texas is a city located in the Austin metropolitan area. Situated in Williamson County, Texas the city encompasses the Balcones Escarpment, which is a fault line in the territory of Blackland Prairie. One side of the fault line consists of flat lands, and has black, fertile soils, while the other side of the fault line is mostly hilly and has very little topsoil on its terrain. Round Rock is located about 20 miles north of Austin, Texas and is located in the central region of the state. In 2009, Round Rock was listed as one of the fastest growing cities and is most well known for being the international headquarters of Dell. This community has been linked to the Ice Age, and has been inhabited since then; the most prominent archeology discovery in this area was the Leanderthal Lady because of its age and the location. The earliest Native American tribe in this area was Tonkawa, they were flint working and hunting people. Other Native Americans lived in the area as well during the 18th century and were starting to disappear from central Texas during the late 19th century. This community was originally named for a rock that would allow you to pass Brushy Creek in a low water area. There is a preserved area in this town called Old Town that has most of the old buildings still intact. In the beginning of the 20th century, most of this counties economy came from cotton fields because of the fertile soil on this side of the fault line. On the other side of the fault line, many ranchers started raising cattle, sheep, and goats. In the 1990’s Round Rock took off and the community became a super suburban area, as Dell moved its international headquarters into this area and provides 16,000 people with jobs. If you are a movie buff, you can certainly take in some local sights that have been on the silver screen, such as the various central Texas locations that were included in 1974 classic, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The Rookie was also filmed in the minor league park, Dell Diamond. Centrally located between Austin, Texas and Georgetown, Texas, with much history to be taken in while visiting, this would be a wonderful place to stay.
