Harrisonburg, Virginia is a mid-sized city located on the central West Virginia/Virginia border. This picturesque city of almost 40,000 is very family-friendly and boasts big city amenities while maintaining its small town charm. Harrisonburg is in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia and is surrounded by natural beauty.
As of 2002 downtown Harrisonburg was given a designation on the National Register of Historic Places, and was renamed the Harrisonburg Downtown Historic District. Harrisonburg boasts an excellent school system, and is home to four institutes of higher learning. Two are private schools, Eastern Mennonite University and National College, while the other two, James Madison University and Blue Ridge Community College, are public universities.
