Mountain Park
Mountain Park is a town in Kiowa County, Oklahoma, that has quite a bit of history. The population of the area is over 400, with 174 households, and 103 families living within the town, which is about .75 square miles. The people who are there are very welcoming, but it is more the history that keeps people coming back to enjoy all that the area has to offer.
The town of Mountain Park started off as a trading post, which was named Burford. Then, in August of 1901, Burford gained it's very own a post office, once what was once a reservation was opened up for non-Native American peoples to inhabit it and by February, the town had officially changed its name to Mountain Park. This town had to be strong, however, because it had to be rebuilt in the early 1900's after being completely destroyed two different years. Once rebuilt, however, the town flourished, with the local economy getting it's wealth from the production of wheat and cotton. Even still, the population has never surpassed 600. Now, this town is just a nice area to go and enjoy some much needed peace and quiet. There is plenty to do, on the natural side of things, which makes this a great area for families.
