In 1977 when Lancaster was incorporated, the city housed only 37,000 residents. Today, Nearly 160,000 people call Lancaster home, and it is no wonder with Lancaster's rich history and thriving commerce. Not only that, but Lancaster has some unique heritage and attractions that are worth visiting or falling in love with for a lifetime. For it is only in Lancaster that you can drive on one of three “musical roads” remaining in the world, and the only one in the U.S.The City of Lancaster is dedicated to providing opportunities of exploration and natural beauty for visitors and residents alike. With more than 600-acres of parks and planned parks, and plans to incorporate a Master Plan of Trails and Bikeways throughout the city and surrounding area, Lancaster is promoting the appreciation for the natural beauty and ecosystems in suburban Southern California. In 2009, Lancaster became the first city in the U.S. to operate a solar thermal power plant, and since then, has been making great strides toward effective alternative energy.
