Passaic
The city of Passaic, New Jersey, emerged from a Dutch settlement established in 1679. Located on the Passaic River, the city became an important center for textiles and metalworking in the 19th century. Passaic is known as the birthplace of television, home to an experimental station that first transmitted television to the home and broadcast a feature film, and home to the world’s first commercial television network. Above all else, though, the Passaic area is known as a sports and entertainment mecca, with access to multiple major league sports and a continuous calendar of concerts and other events.
