Richmond
Richmond, Virginia, is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia. This highly notable city sits directly at the fall line of the James River, west of Williamsburg, east of Charlottesville, and just under 100 miles south of Washington, DC. It’s also known as “the River City” due to its location near the James River. Richmond is the jewel of the South, and its beauty and renown brought about many other cities named “Richmond” around the country.
Richmond’s motto is in Latin – Sic Itur Ad Astra, meaning “Thus do we reach the stars.” After having served as the capitol to the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, Richmond has lost little of its glory and pride. There’s something for everyone in Richmond – great food, beautiful sights, and fantastic history.
