Springfield
Springfield, Ohio is located in the western central region of the state and is situated in Clark County. Being Clark County’s largest city, Springfield has a lot to offer. This location is close to Mad River, Buck Creek, Beaver Creek, approximately 45 miles west of Columbus, Ohio, and 25 miles northeast of Dayton, Ohio. This location is centrally situated in a territory that offers many things to see and do during your travel. There were two villages located in the area where Springfield resides today that were inhabited by local Shawnee Indian tribe. There is a traditional cedar pole that is placed for commemoration at the edge of George Rogers Clark Historical Park. Springfield was founded in 1801 when Clark County was created from a few surrounding counties, there was much industrial growth in this area and 4-H was started here. Because of the industrial revolution that was happening in this area, there were 10 car companies that operated in Springfield. One of the manufacturer’s is now well known to have had architect Frank Lloyd Wright design the family home, in 1908, it is located at 1340 E. High Street, and is called the Westcott House, it has been fully renovated and restored to its previous glory and is open to the public for tours. The Wright Brothers are also known to have spent much time in this area, and are most well known for the first airplane. You will not find any better place to visit small town history in the making than this location. Many inventions, beginnings, and innovative ideas have come from the state of Ohio, that is why its nickname is The Heart of it All.
