Vacaville
Vacaville, California, has a relatively intimate population of 92,000, but it’s only 35 miles from Sacramento and 45 miles from San Francisco. This city started around a Pony Express station years ago, but Vaca Valley’s rich soil and pleasant Mediterranean climate have made Vacaville home to many large farms and produce companies. The nut tree is even celebrated here.
Nicknamed “Voltageville” though, the area has the highest per capita concentration of electric cars in the world. There are also biotechnology pharmaceutical facilities operated by Genentecy, ALZA Corporation, Kaiser Permanente, and Novartis International AG. The scenic views, art venues, restaurants, shopping, and outdoor recreation make this one of California’s most vibrant places to shop, visit, stay, or play.
