Saint George

St. George, South Carolina is located in the southeastern region of the state. Situated in the county of Dorchester, South Carolina, it is also the county seat. There are many historic places in this area and all of its territory is land. The townspeople of St. George were looking to create an annual festival in the area during the mid-1980s and found that people in Dorchester County consume more Quaker grits than any other town in the nation, by population, so that is how The Worlds Grits Festival began. The festival takes place in mid-April and has close to 30,000 people in attendance every year. Summerville, South Carolina is another large city located in Dorchester County approximately 28 miles southeast of St. George. The first settlement in this area happened after the American Revolutionary War and there are many historical places in this area of South Carolina as well. You will find that on the listing of National Historical Places, Summerville, and St. George hold over seven of these locations. Something you will not want to miss if you happen to be a history buff.
