Longwood
A Seminole County suburban city, Longwood is a part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city's 3,000-year-old bald cypress, The Senator, has been used as a destination marker by tribals travelling on the St. Johns River. The city's name's origins can be traced back to Spanish and Creek roots, where Seminole is a term used to describe people living away from others. Settlement in Longwood first started in the 1870s when John Neill Searcy came in from Tennessee and Edward Warren Henck from Boston. Henck is responsible for major developments in the Longwood area, including starting the first post office, construction of the South Florida Railroad, and major real estate promotions.
