Cold Bay
Cold Bay is located in Aleutians East Borough in Alaska and is known as Udaamagax in Aleut. This is one of the biggest commercial centers within the Alaskan Peninsula and it also houses Cold Bay Airport.
Despite having a population that was only 108 as of the 2010 census, Cold Bay covers a large stretch of land. In total there are 70.9 square miles and 16.6 of these are made up of water. This community stays small despite being a commercial center because many people tend not to stay in the area for too long. There is a Cold Bay School but it is very small. Most residents come to Cold Bay because of air traffic jobs, the Weather Service, or the Wildlife Refuge in the area.
There is not much in Cold Bay but there is the Bearfoot Inn Alaska which is a store that is responsible for bringing groceries and other supplies to the area. Some people also choose to order supplies from Seattle or Anchorage.
Perhaps the biggest attraction in Cold Bay is Izembek National Wildlife Refuge and as mentioned earlier, this is one of the features that brings a lot of people to the area, however briefly. The climate in Cold Bay is classified as subpolar oceanic although the summers are cool to the point where they seem more like part of a polar climate.
