Roanoke is an independent city in the state of Virginia, located in the Roanoke Valley of the Roanoke Region of Virginia. Roanoke was actually formerly known as “Big Lick”... and yes, that's no joke. It also goes by the names “The Star City of the South,” or “Magic City.”
Roanoke has a unique Southern air, while still maintaining that big-city ambiance. The city has a good deal of history, as it used to be a key stop along some of the first regional railroad lines. Oddly enough, there haven't been trails running through Roanoke since 1979.
