Hutchinson
Locals refer to their hometown of Hutchinson, Kansas, as “Hutch.” It's also been called “Salt City” thanks to the salt mines that have been there since 1887. The Strataca is a local museum that explains the business of salt mines to visitors. Residents of Hutch acknowledge they're a growing community, but they maintain the cozy and familiar feeling of a small town.
Things get crazy once a year when the Kansas State Fair comes to town. Everyone who's anyone turns out to take a look at winning livestock, fill up on pies and fair food, and try to outdo each other by winning games and riding, then re-riding the Ferris wheel. Hutchinson is also home to the National Junior College Athletic Association basketball tournament. There's a lot of March Madness happening in this city, located in the center of Kansas.
