Hattiesburg
Hattiesburg is a mid-sized city in the southeast corner of Mississippi, with a population of roughly 45,000. This city was founded in 1882 by William Hardy and named the small community for his wife, Hattie. Hattiesburg rapidly became a hub of the lumber industry, giving it the nickname “Hub City”. This charming city is experiencing rapid growth due to its strong economy, low crime rate, and excellent school system.
Hattiesburg is a lovely southern city filled with shady, tree-lined streets, many neighborhood parks, and friendly residents who are expert in the art of Southern hospitality. Hattiesburg also has two is home to two institutes of higher learning, the public University of Southern Mississippi and the Baptist-run private William Carey University. There is also a strong military presence area in Hattiesburg, as only a few miles south of Hattiesburg is Camp Shelby, the largest National Guard training facility east of the Mississippi River.
