Macon
Known as the “Heart of Georgia” for its location in the center of the state, Macon is situated along the Ocmulgee River at the intersection of the Piedmont Plateau and the coastal plains. This location provides a unique landscape of rolling hills and grasslands. Macon is home to numerous colleges and universities, including Wesleyan College, the world's first women's college. Macon's early industries included cotton and textile production and shoemaking. Manufacturers and supplies often used the Ocmulgee River as a means of transporting and distributing goods throughout the state. Macon boasts numerous parks and recreational areas and is pleasant to visit year round.
