The Winigan area is an unincorporated community in Sullivan County located along State Route 129 roughly sixteen miles southeast of the city of Milan. The community of Winigan was established in 1874 and was named for an early settler of Sullivan County who was killed by a panther. The community of Winigan is a very small community with only about twenty-five families living in the area. At one time the community of Winigan was home to two dry goods stores, two blacksmith shops, a drug store, and a steam saw and gristmill. The community of Winigan also hosts the Winigan Strawberry Festival every year in June. The community of Winigan offers a close and historical atmosphere for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.
