Beacon is a small city in the southeast quadrant of Iowa. The city is home to nearly 500 residents, many of which are older families. Manufacturing is the most common industry in Beacon, and the city has a history of coal mining and other industrial fields. The cost of living in Beacon is much lower than in other parts of the state, and the city has a charming small-town feel with laid-back and friendly Midwest culture. Oskaloosa, the Mahaska County Seat, is Beacon's closest neighbor, and is home to over 11,000 residents.
