Approximately 25 miles from downtown Chicago, Gary, Indiana is a city located in the southeast portion of the greater Chicago Metropolitan Area. The city is located in Lake County and borders Lake Michigan. It is also the home of famed pop singer Michael Jackson, and his brothers, who started the popular singing group The Jackson 5. Gary is a steel manufacturing epicenter, and in fact was founded by the United States Steel Corporation in 1906 as the location of their new plant, Gary Works. Today it is known for its ethnically diverse population and many abandoned buildings and steel mills.
