The city of Douglas, North Dakota is part of Ward County and was founded in 1906. The 2010 census found that the population of Douglas was a mere 64 individuals. Douglas is in the northwest part of the state. Ward County was originally established in 1885 by the Dakota Territory legislature. There currently are 15 properties in Ward County that are on the National Register of Historic Places. Politics and land battles have altered the shape of Ward County, so that it looks a bit like a pan that has a narrow strip of land making a panhandle on the upper corner of the county.
