Walloon Lake
Walloon Lake, Michigan, is home to dozens upon dozens of vacation homes and cottages; it's a magnet for those looking to get away from everyday life. Around 900 residents line the shore of the lake. Ernest Hemingway spent many summers in a family cottage along the lake's shore. The area is just south of Petosky, MI, and attracts fishermen, boaters, and vacationers looking for activities in the great outdoors. The lake itself was created by melted glaciers.
Because the town is full of many vacation rentals, you will find that it won't be quite as populated in the late fall and winter months, but that doesn't mean it isn't as beautiful. It also means you'll find good deals on lodging and a bit quieter of a vacation.
