Knife River is peaceful community of approximately 2,000 residents that is beautifully situated on the North Shore of Lake Superior in western Minnesota. Its history can be traced by to the region's early days of copper mining, logging, and commercial fishing (which continues to this day). The Knife River, which is known as the fresh fish capital of the North Shore, has since become a spot popular for sport fishing. Both local residents and visitors alike also enjoy boating out of the full-service Knife River Marina run by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and strolling the agate-filled beaches. No visit to Knife River would be complete without sampling smoked fish, something the area is known for throughout the country.
