Crockett, Virginia is a small, unincorporated community found within Wythe County near the southwest corner of the state. This recorded history of Wythe County goes back to 1790 when the county was originally formed. The county is known for being the home of the Austinville community which Stephen Austin and Moses Austin founded . Moses Austin is the father of Stephen F. Austin - the man who is known as the “Father of Texas.” During the American Civil War, the Battle of Cove Mountain was fought in Wythe County. The county is home to 19 historic buildings, homes and sites currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
