Hoboken, New Jersey is a city of around 50,000 residents in Hudson County. Part of the New York metropolitan area, the city is the first city in the United States to play baseball. It is also a major transportation hub for the entire region, as well as the location of the Stevens Institute of Technology, one of the oldest technological universities in the country. Hoboken was first settled in the 1600s as part of New Netherland. It was incorporated in 1855, and has been a major port city since the time of its birth. Nowadays, it is more upscale than blue collar, with fancy shops and condominiums.
