Cecil
The city of Cecil, Georgia is a quaint little hamlet nestled in the heart of Cook County. The town, a humbling 0.8 square miles in area, is located just over an hour's drive from Albany. Cecil, along with three others that make up Cook County, was carved from Berrien County lands in the year 1918, and honor General Philip Cook with their namesake. General Cook was a veteran of both the Seminole War and the Civil War, who later served in the US Congress. The General also served as Georgia's Secretary of State for twenty-four years and was a part of the committee that oversaw the construction of the State Capitol Building. Like the rest of Georgia, Cecil and its neighbors experience mild winters with hot summers, with a typical summer's day temperature exceeding 90 degrees.
