Upland

Fayette County’s largest city is Uniontown, Pennsylvania. This quaint community of just over 10,000 people is only 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and offers a break from hectic city life. Known to many as Beesontown, coincidentally Henry Beeson founded the “The Town of Union” on the same day that the Declaration of Independence was signed. The town and surrounding area is full of rich character and history. French-Indian War memorials dot the area, and local residents were pivotal in helping thousands of slaves find freedom on the Underground Railroad. In 1967, a local even invented the McDonald’s Big Mac in town.
