Jersey City
Waldo is a famous historic powerhouse arts district inside of Jersey City in the state of New Jersey. It is called WALDO, which is an acronym for Work And Live District Overlay. It consists of 11 blocks of historic warehouse buildings, some of which are currently being redesigned. The name is derived from part of a planning strategy that the city adopted in 2002 with the purpose of re-using this area of industrial buildings for residential purposes without having to zone them as just a residential building. Today this historic district be used for museum spaces as well as shops and galleries, in addition to residences.
