Longview
The principal city in the Longview Metropolitan Statistical Area of Gregg, Upshur, and Rusk counties, Longview is located north of the Sabine River, at the convergence of Interstate 20, U.S. Highway 80, and U.S. Highway 259. A part of East Texas, most of the city lies in Gregg County, with only a small part extending into Harrison County. Longview, and the city of Tyler, are considered hub cities for the East Texas area. The city's development can be traced back to Ossamus Hitch Methvin Sr., who sold the land in the 1870s in hopes of adding to the value of his remaining land due to the railroad that was slated to be constructed. Methvin named the town Longview.
