Wilmington
This historic Browntown neighborhood of Wilmington, Delaware, lies in the center of the city; it straddles Interstate 95 and partially lies along the banks of the Delaware River. The district is named after Dr. Brown, a 19th century resident who purportedly sympathized with the Confederacy during the Civil War. This neighborhood was also settled by Swedish and Polish immigrants in the 19th century and originally consisted largely of farmland. Now it's a major center of culture and commerce and home to the famous Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts. A myriad of historic sites of interest await visitors within this district's borders.
