Greenville
Nestled on the eastern banks of the Mississippi River is the city of Greenville, Mississippi. Just a short distance from the MS and Arkansas line, Greenville is steeped in history dating back to the early 19th Century, though the town is named after Nathanael Greene, who fought in the American Revolution. Originally, the city of Greenville was located a short distance from where it stands today, but it was destroyed during the Civil War in the siege of Vicksburg. During this siege, Union soldiers brought gunboats up the Mississippi River and, upon landing in Greenville, burned the city to the ground. Following the war's end, the remaining residents of Greenville banded together and decided to rebuild.Today, though the history of the area remains in museums, landmarks, and points of interest, Greenville has moved forward and has become a thriving, diverse location, perfect for families or those looking for a quieter pace of life. Much like the post-war community of yesteryear, Greenville remains dedicated to improving the city and preserving the quality of life for visitors and residents.
