Hialeah

Hialeah is both a major municipality within the Miami area and a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. With a population of over 200,000, the city has the highest percentage of Cuban and Cuban American residents of any other city in the U.S. Over 90% of the city's population is fluent in Spanish and speaks the language on a daily basis. For that reason, companies like Telemundo were attracted to the city. In the Western part of the city lies a small community of 20,000 residents known as Miami Lakes, which has a large elderly and Arabic population. The name “Hialeah” means “pretty prairie,” and is believed to be of either Muskogee or Seminole origins. Hialeah is located on a large prairie between Biscayne Bay and the Everglades.
