Eugene
While many people may think of Eugene, Oregon, as being out in the sticks, nothing could be further from the truth. The second-largest city in Oregon has the proud home of the University of Oregon since 1875. The university is one of only two Association of American Universities in the Pacific Northwest region. Students are also found at the modern Lane Community College. Visitors who have never been to this city before are in for a surprise as they explore the individualism and strong sense of community that make Eugene unique.
Small businesses still rule supreme in Eugene. The city is among the largest producers of wood products and recreational vehicles. Headquartered in Eugene is Bi-Mart, which sells housewares, electronics, recreational sporting goods, food, and pharmaceutical items; each employee owns a small share of the enormous company. The largest employer in the city is PeaceHealth Medical Center, tending to the needs of sick residents from throughout the region.
